The NWFA has launched a campaign to educate consumers on the benefits of choosing real hardwood flooring over its growing field of market competitors.  Most of these alternate flooring products imitate the look of traditional hardwood flooring, but are made with plastics and synthetic materials that give them the advantage of being more spill friendly and scratch resistant.

So why should you choose real hardwood floors?

According to an article titled "Why Wood Floors", traditional hardwood flooring provides benefits such as:
  • DURABILITY
    • Although it may not seem like it in the short term, solid hardwood flooring is durable in the long term. Solid hardwood flooring can be refinished as many times as you like. This means you can sand them down to change the stain colors or just give them a fresh coat of polyurethane when they become dull or scratched due to natural wear and tear.
  • INCREASED HOME VALUE
    • Real hardwood flooring is the only flooring option that will add value to your home. There's a reason why real estate agents highlight hardwood floors in their listing descriptions.
  • ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
    • This one might have people scratching their heads, but it's true! Traditional hardwood flooring is the most environmentally friendly option in the flooring world. To start, loggers plant more trees every year than they remove. Additionally, solid hardwood flooring's longevity means it doesn't have to be replaced as often as its competitors. (Think of all of the old homes that still have their original hardwood floors in place.)
  • IMPROVED INDOOR AIR QUALITY
    • Hardwood flooring holds less allergens than other options (like carpet). If you have allergies, hardwood is a great options for you!

The NWFA's woodfloors.org is a great resource for those who want to know more about the different types of hardwoods, finishes, installation, and more.
